Ahead of the 2027 Governorship election in Abia State, business mogul, Chief Etugo Ndubuisi Ogah, and engineering expert, Dozie Alaribe, have respectively emerged as the Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the state.

The duo were unveiled during a ceremony attended by leaders, candidates and supporters of the party in Umuahia, with the NDC declaring its determination to provide an alternative platform for the people of Abia and contribute to what it described as the liberation of the state.

Speaking after his unveiling, Ogah expressed optimism that the NDC would emerge victorious in the 2027 Governorship election, saying the party was prepared to work with its members and stakeholders across the state to achieve its objective.

The NDC Governorship candidate said one of his immediate priorities would be to strengthen unity within the party by reaching out to aspirants who contested but were unsuccessful.

According to him, reconciliation is essential to ensuring that members remain united and focused on the party’s collective goal ahead of the election.

Ogah expressed appreciation to the NDC National and State leadership, particularly the State Chairman, Chief Ako Atulomah, members of the State Working Committee and the party’s senatorial candidates, including Nkechi Nwogu for Abia Central Senatorial District and Hon Uko Nkole for Abia North.

He also commended members of the Kwankwasiyya movement, various support groups and political structures associated with the party, urging them to continue to promote the NDC and its message across the state.

In his remarks, the NDC Chairman in Abia, Chief Ako Atulomah, said the unveiling was an indication that the party had come to stay in the state.

Atulomah described the NDC as one of the fastest-growing political platforms in the country and Abia, saying the party represented what he called a “vessel of grace” and a vehicle for a new Nigeria.

He called on party members to work towards ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots, stressing that those who contribute to the success of political parties should not be sidelined after elections.

The party chairman said the NDC was determined to change what he described as a system where grassroots mobilizers are often overlooked while political elites benefit disproportionately from the efforts of party workers.

He urged members to see the party’s mission as a collective responsibility rather than the project of an individual, declaring that the NDC’s central message was service to the people.

The party leadership subsequently charged members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation and work collectively towards securing victory for the NDC in the 2027 elections.
