The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Abia North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, Hon. Uko Nkole, has expressed confidence in his ability to defeat the incumbent senator representing the district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

Nkole, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, said no politician is immune to defeat, arguing that Kalu himself had to defeat another candidate to emerge as a two-term senator.

The NDC candidate made the remarks in Umuahia shortly after receiving the party’s flag, where he spoke with journalists about his ambition and the prospects of his party ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Nkole, the contest should be viewed as a democratic process in which every candidate has an equal opportunity to seek the mandate of the people.

“The incumbent defeated someone to emerge, so also he is not immune to being defeated. It’s simple mathematics”, he said.

Nkole expressed confidence in the growing popularity of the NDC and its presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, saying the party was offering Nigerians a different political direction.

He said Obi had earned the goodwill of many Nigerians through his actions and track record, adding that the NDC would seek to translate that goodwill into electoral victory in 2027.

“Our presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has the goodwill of the people, and he has practicalized it over time. He would do things differently”,  Nkole said.

He further urged voters to trust the NDC with their mandate, expressing optimism that the party would contribute to the emergence of what he described as a “New Nigeria” after the 2027 elections.

“With Peter Obi, a New Nigeria is possible. The mantra is that a New Nigeria is possible. We believe things would be done differently. Trust us with your mandate and be assured that a New Nigeria would emerge come May 29, 2027″, he said.

Nkole said his campaign would be focused on convincing the people of Abia North that the time had come for a new direction in the representation of the senatorial district.

He, therefore, urged the electorate to assess all candidates based on their capacity, experience and commitment to serving the people, rather than assuming that any incumbent is unbeatable
