The conferment took place during the Iwa Ji Ohuhu 2026 celebration, where the Ndi Eze Ohuhu formally bestowed the traditional honour on Atuma in recognition of his connection with the people, contributions to community development and commitment to service to humanity.
The colourful occasion attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders and residents of Ohuhu, including former Nigerian Ambassador to Argentina, His Excellency Ambassador Empire Kanu, Governor Alex Otti, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Uzor Nwachukwu, Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, and Mayor of Umuahia North LGA, Chief Smart Ihuoma, among other dignitaries.
The traditional recognition was seen as a significant expression of confidence in Atuma’s leadership capacity, experience, accessibility and commitment to effective representation.
Speaking during the occasion, stakeholders described the conferment as more than a ceremonial honour, noting that it reflected the confidence of the traditional institution and the people in Atuma’s capacity to provide credible and effective representation for Abia Central at the National Assembly.
They stressed the need for a senator who would effectively articulate the concerns and aspirations of the people, attract sustainable development and provide the district with a stronger voice at the national level.
The conferment of “Ihie Ukwu Ohuhu”, therefore, added a significant traditional and political dimension to Atuma’s 2027 senatorial aspiration, as the event brought together culture, community recognition and political solidarity in support of his ambition.
