Obingwa West Lawmaker Empowers Constituents in Historic Mass Empowerment Programme

 

History was made in Obingwa West State Constituency,  as the lawmaker representing the constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Erondu Uchenna Erondu, carried out a massive empowerment programme described by many as unprecedented in the history of the area.

The event, held at the Umuaro Civic Centre in Umuaro Community, Mgboko Umuanunu Ancient Kingdom, attracted political leaders across party lines, traditional rulers, community leaders, friends, associates, and a large crowd of constituents who gathered to witness what many described as an epoch-making intervention.

The empowerment programme featured the distribution of a wide range of items aimed at improving livelihoods, education, healthcare, and economic development. Items distributed included motorcycles, desktop computers, laptops, gasoline generators, car wash machines, spraying and vulcanizing machines, minibuses, trucks, tippers, cars, buses, over 20,000 assorted medical equipment, five dialysis machines, incubators for newborn babies, hospital beds and mattresses, university scholarships, free JAMB and WAEC registrations, female goats for widows, houses, and other critical support materials.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Raymond Aliga, described Hon Erondu as a formidable and inclusive representative, noting that the empowerment transcended party affiliations.
“This empowerment cuts across party lines. It is not only for PDP members. Hon Erondu has shown that we are brothers before party politics. He has mastered the art of representation”, Aliga remarked.

He passed a vote of confidence on the Lawmaker, calling for his reelection, while prayed God that the empowerment materials would multiply in the hands of the beneficiaries.

The Abia South Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Enyinnaya Apollos, attributed Hon Erondu’s political success to the mentorship and support of former Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, and former Deputy Governor, Chief Chris Akomas, describing the programme as the first phase of a larger empowerment vision.

In his remarks, the Abia State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, expressed pride in Hon Erondu, describing him as a strong pillar of the party, while acknowledging the presence of leaders from other political parties at the event, said, his party would be obtaining a perpetual injunction restraining Hon Erondu from leaving the PDP for another party.

Former Imo State governorship candidate, Hon Uche Nwosu, who flew in from Abuja, said he was overwhelmed by the scale of the empowerment, describing Hon Erondu as an exceptional leader with a rare heart for service.

He praised the lawmaker for showing him support in his last political engagements, calling him to join the All Progressive Congress.

According to Nwosu, such massive empowerments are synonymous with APC members. “If PDP puts a restraining order for you not to leave the party, we will get a superior injunction to vacate the order. We need people like you in APC”, he said.

 

As a way of reciprocating Erondu’s kind gesture to him in the past, the Imo State bigwig made a financial donation of ₦2 million to support logistics for the beneficiaries.

In his goodwill message, the Mayor of Obingwa Local Government Area, Hon Maxwell Nwadike, described the empowerment as unprecedented, noting that the occasion had gone beyond party politics and urging beneficiaries to make proper use of the items received.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, urged beneficiaries to put the empowerment items to productive use and commended the lawmaker for his generosity, which he noted has equally be felt by his colleagues.

 

A former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Chief Chris Akomas, expressed satisfaction over the level of empowerment done by Erondu, ” I’m proud of you. If you get empowered, please empower others. Erondu, you have shown capacity and I’m proud of you”, he restated.

Akomas, however, announced financial support of ₦50,000 for each motorcycle beneficiary, ₦100,000 for car beneficiaries, and ₦1.4 million for the 14 wards of Obingwa Local Government Area.

Also, the former Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, commended Hon. Erondu for the scale and impact of the empowerment, describing it as a demonstration of the “mustard seed principle” that would continue to grow.

 

He prayed for the beneficiaries and encouraged the lawmaker not to relent in his service to the people.

In his address, Hon Erondu Uchenna Erondu expressed deep gratitude to the people of Obingwa West for the grand reception and sustained support, stressing that leadership should be measured by the lives touched and opportunities created.

 

“This empowerment programme is not an act of charity but an investment in human potential. It is designed to improve education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and economic growth in our communities”, he said.

He emphasized his commitment to education through scholarships, free JAMB and WAEC registrations, and digital learning tools, describing education as the strongest weapon against poverty and assured constituents that the empowerment programme was not a one-time event but part of a long-term vision for inclusive development.

Hon Erondu also appreciated his family, particularly his wife, Deaconess Queeneth Ginikanwa Erondu, for their support, and acknowledged the influence of former Deputy Governor, Chief Chris Akomas, whom he described as a mentor who taught him the true purpose of politics as service, accountability, and justice.

He paid glowing tribute to former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, describing him as a rare gem whose guidance and belief shaped his political journey.

“Today, I am fulfilling a vow to publicly acknowledge the instrument God used to find and empower me. I will continue to carry these lessons forward with pride and purpose”.

Erondu further urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment materials, noting that they should serve as stepping stones to greater achievements for individuals, families, and communities.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen, one of the beneficiaries, Mr Ndubuisi Nwankwo, who received a coaster bus, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for his impactful leadership, noting that he has worked closely with him for several years and has benefited immensely from his support.

Highpoint of the event was the distribution of the empowerment materials, as the lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to building a stronger Obingwa West and leaving a lasting legacy of development for generations to come.
