Federal Lawmakers Back Rt Hon Kalu’s Peace In S’East Project, As President Tinubu Unveils Peace Logo
As the country’s President yesterday unveiled the logo of the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P), which symbolises the beginning of the journey of peace in the South East region, federal Lawmakers have dropped immense support for the initiative.
The initiative which was birthed by the Deputy Speaker of the 10th National Assembly and member representing the good people of Bende federal constituency, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, stand as a beacon of hope in the South East, addressing the pressing challenges in the region, bringing about about lasting peace, prosperity and development.
The Member representing the people of Orhionmwon/Uhunmwode Federal constituency, Hon Billy Famous Osawaru in an interview with journalists in Bende, said the idea was a laudable one, as peace in the South East region, signifies peace in Nigeria.
Chief Dr. Billy Osawaru stated that the idea was apt, coming at a time the region is faced with countless challenges and agitations which have led to the economic downturns,thereby hindering growth of the region.
He said the efforts of the Deputy Speaker,is largely supported by the federal Lawmakers,hence their presence in the unveiling of the project.
According to Chief Osawaru, the Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu,has displayed high level of integrity, responsiveness and intelligence, with his laudable contributions in the House, particularly any time he presides over the House in the absence of the Speaker.
He noted that the Federal Lawmakers all came to the South East to support his initiative which they believed would reawaken a new hope and chart the course of peace in the South East region.
“The Deputy Speaker has always been there for us, we’re here to reciprocate his kind gestures to us, support and encourage him in what he is doing, especially the peace project.
“We believe so much in this project. Peace in the South East, translates to peace in Nigeria. Seeing all of us here today has shown to Nigerians that we are all ready for peace”,he stated.
The Federal Lawmaker, however, eulogized the sterling qualities of Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, describing him as responsible, a team player, a lover of his people and one who knows his onions, adding that his leadership dexterity has brought uniqueness in the lower chamber,urging him not to relent.
Also, the member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Petroleum, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, maintained that there is no other option to forestall the rising unemployment, inflation and security threats in the South East than to embrace peace.
Ikenga Ugochinyere who implored all stakeholders to return to the drawing board in search of peace for the region,said the people need to be mobilized towards finding lasting peace that is rooted in equity, justice and fairness.
The journey for peace, he added has begun in Bende, with the frontier formed for a new unity in Igboland.
