2027: Ukwa Federal Constituency Seat Belongs to Asa people, ADU Declares, Adopts Think Tank Report
The Asa Development Union (ADU), an apex sociocultural body representing the people of Asa in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, has declared that the House of Representatives seat for Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency should be occupied by an Asa indigene in the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made by the President General of the Union, Elder Goodluck Nwanneakolam Nwuju, during the Union’s General Consultative Assembly held at Isiobehie Community Cluster Hall, Obehie Asa, on Saturday, March 21, 2026, during the occasion which featured the presentation and adoption of the ASA Think Tank Group’s report.
Nwuju stated that by 2027, the seat would have been held continuously for about 20 years by representatives from Ndoki in Ukwa East Local Government Area, argued that principles of equity and natural justice demand that Asa be allowed to occupy the position, noting that the Asa people have consistently supported candidates from Ukwa East since 2007 without commensurate infrastructural or social benefits.
The President General commended members of the Asa Think Tank Group for their dedication and patriotism in carrying out their assignment, emphasising that the group would continue to function until it achieves its objective of ensuring greater inclusion of Asa people in key government positions for the overall development of the area.
“It will be recalled that the Think Tank Group was inaugurated on September 13, 2025, as a 51-member committee tasked with developing a strategic roadmap to guide Asa’s participation in governance at both the state and federal levels, ” he said.
Presenting the report on behalf of the group, the Chairman, Elder Ezedinachi Kanu, thanked the Union for the confidence reposed in the committee and urged the Asa people to set aside divisive politics and unite in pursuit of what he described as the “Asa Agenda 2027″.
Highlights of the 22-page report, presented by the Secretary General of ADU, Sir Boniface U. Nwaigwe, included the zoning of the Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency seat to the Ipu political bloc.
In contrast, the Ukwa West State Constituency seat was zoned to the Asa political bloc. The report noted that the Ozar Group currently occupies the position of Ukwa West Local Government Area Chairman, reflecting what it described as the Union’s longstanding policy of political balancing aimed at promoting equity, peace, and development.
Members of the Union, who attended the meeting in large numbers, unanimously adopted the report and pledged to work collectively towards its full implementation.
