Abia APC Demands Clarity on Otti’s Political Loyalty, Accuses Him of Double Standards
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Governor Alex Otti to openly declare his political allegiance and publicly state his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, through its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, accused the governor of engaging in what it described as “deceptive politics” by allegedly attempting to maintain the support of both the Obidient Movement and supporters of the APC-led Federal Government.
Aguoru, in a statement made available to journalists, contrasted Otti’s position with that of the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, whom he commended for openly declaring support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, while Soludo has consistently and publicly expressed his political position, Governor Otti has allegedly avoided openly acknowledging the contributions of the Tinubu administration to infrastructural development in Abia State.
The APC spokesman cited the recent visit of the Renewed Hope National Media Tour to Abia State, during which federal projects executed under the Renewed Hope Agenda were inspected. He alleged that Governor Otti deliberately distanced himself from the visit by delegating aides to receive the team instead of personally engaging with the delegation.
Aguoru further claimed that many of the governor’s aides, appointees, associates and Labour Party supporters have consistently criticized President Tinubu, his policies and the APC, raising questions about the governor’s purported support for the Federal Government.
“The people of Abia deserve to know exactly where their governor stands and who he is supporting,” Aguoru stated, urging Otti to publicly acknowledge President Tinubu’s achievements and openly endorse his re-election bid if he genuinely supports the administration.
The APC spokesman also alleged that the governor has failed to credit the Federal Government for key infrastructure projects in the state, claiming that such projects are often presented as achievements of the Abia State Government.
Despite its criticisms of the governor, Aguoru said the APC in Abia remains focused on mobilizing support for President Tinubu and the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
He expressed confidence that the party possesses the structure, grassroots support and political machinery required to deliver Abia State to the APC, adding that the party is determined to win the state’s three senatorial seats, eight House of Representatives seats, 24 State House of Assembly seats, and ultimately take over the Government House in Umuahia in 2027.
The APC also pledged to continue sensitizing residents on what it described as the benefits of the Tinubu administration to Abia State through infrastructure development, federal appointments and other interventions.
Aguoru concluded by calling on Governor Otti to clearly state his political position ahead of the next electoral cycle.
