Abia Anniversary: Otti Has Taken Abia To Greater Heights, We’ll Vote Him Again — Azu
The Premier Mayor of Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State, Hon. Newman Azu, has declared that the people of Ukwa West are solidly behind Governor Alex Otti and will vote massively for him in the 2027 governorship election.
Azu stated this while speaking with journalists at his country home in Ukwa West as Abia State prepares to mark another anniversary of its creation.
The former Premier Mayor described his appointment by Governor Otti as an opportunity and a rare privilege to serve his people, saying he gave his best during his tenure.
He said it was the highest honour of his life to be given the opportunity by the Governor of Abia State to serve the people in the capacity of the first Mayor of Ukwa West.
“For the first time in the history of Nigerian politics, it is something unique for people like me to be given the opportunity to serve and to be called upon to come back home to serve. It was a rare privilege, and I gave it my best shot like most of the other premier Mayors”.
Azu commended Governor Otti for what he described as a transformation in the narrative of leadership and governance in Abia, noting that the Gov Alex Otti’s led administration had attracted recognition within and outside the state for an impactful leadership.
According to him, the anniversary provides an opportunity for Abians to reflect on the achievements of the administration and look forward to more development.
“Today, if you want to see good governance, you will come to Abia State. In the area of infrastructural development, roads, regular power supply and improved healthcare system, everywhere is getting a wonderful touch.
“We are grateful to God, and we pray that God will guide and protect the Governor. From what he has done, we know that the state is in good hands and he will do more when voted again”, he said.
The former premier Mayor also highlighted some of the developments in Ukwa West, particularly the renewal of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), as well as the construction of the Obehie-Owaza road which he said is very significant to the people of the area.
He described the road as a major intervention in the oil-producing area, while stressing that more development was still needed because of the peculiar challenges faced by communities in oil-producing areas.
Azu also commended the present administration for interventions in schools and healthcare facilities across the state.
On the 2027 election, he said there was no serious competition to Governor Otti in Ukwa West, insisting that the area was already secured for the Governor’s re-election.
“There is no competition against Governor Otti. This place is secured for his re-election. There is no shaking; we will deliver”, Azu declared.
He urged Abians to remain confident in the Gov Otti’s administration, describing the state as being in safe hands.
“My word to Abians is that Abia is in safe hands. Therefore, it is on autopilot. Abians should relax, we are cruising at a higher altitude.
“My influence as a former Mayor goes beyond this area. We are in charge, we are not threatened, and we will deliver. Abia has a good captain, therefore, it is on high altitude. Because of the character of the Governor, our expectations are high”, he said.
