Recognition of Presidential Amnesty Scholarship Programme and its Impact on Abia State Beneficiaries – A Call for Continuity
Comrade Chibuike Emmanuel (Ecomog), National President of the Niger Delta Youth Peace Builders, wishes to place on record his profound appreciation for the transformative impact of the Presidential Amnesty Programme under the leadership of Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro, made possible by the goodwill and renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Through this initiative, numerous sons and daughters of Abia State origin have been enrolled in the Presidential Amnesty Scholarship Programme. The scheme has provided full sponsorship to choice private universities where annual tuition can reach as high as ₦2.4 million, complemented by monthly stipends, various allowances, and comprehensive health insurance. This intervention has brought tangible relief to parents and families who would otherwise have struggled under the weight of such costs, thereby reducing the risk of educational disruption and dropout.
Comrade Emmanuel notes that parallel efforts under NELFUND have similarly expanded access to quality higher education, further easing the financial burden on Nigerian students and their households. He candidly observes that, prior to facilitating the enrolment of over forty students under the Amnesty Scholarship, he himself would have found it difficult to believe that a Nigerian government programme could simultaneously cover tuition, both local and international pathways, and provide living support. The fact that such opportunities remain under-reported in public discourse, he stresses, does not diminish their significance.
In the considered view of Comrade Emmanuel, the sustainability of these gains is closely linked to continuity of leadership. He believes that a second term for President Tinubu would enable the further expansion and consolidation of these programmes, whereas a change in administration could risk interrupting the present momentum. The parents of current beneficiaries, many of whom cannot independently afford the fees involved, stand as living testimony to the practical value of the initiative.
Accordingly, Comrade Emmanuel calls upon all beneficiaries, their parents, and the wider network of families who have experienced this relief to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and to mobilise others. He emphasises that one student’s sponsorship lifts pressure from an entire household; therefore, reciprocity through civic participation is both a duty and an act of enlightened self-interest. Silence, he cautions, would be inconsistent with the scale of the benefit received.
He further urges Nigerian youth to recognise the educational opportunities being created under the present administration and to safeguard the conditions that allow such programmes to flourish. In this spirit, the National President of the Niger Delta Youth Peace Builders publicly affirms his support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, so that the progress already achieved may be deepened and extended to many more young Nigerians.
