The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has passed a motion granting unconditional pardon to erring members of the party, while warning that future acts of indiscipline and disloyalty will not be tolerated.

The decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the APC Secretariat in Umuahia, where party leaders and stakeholders resolved to put past grievances behind them as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Moving the motion for the unconditional pardon, the APC candidate for Aba North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Uzor Azubuike, said the decision was necessary to promote unity and ensure that all members, both loyal and those who had erred, remained together in the interest of the party.

Azubuike noted that forgiving the affected members would help prevent actions that could undermine the party’s unity and electoral prospects.

The motion was seconded by the Member representing Bende South State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Ndubuisi.

Earlier, the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, said the APC had concluded its primaries, describing the exercise as the best so far conducted in the history of Abia politics.

Chukwu said the party was prepared to address grievances arising from the primaries, while appealing to aggrieved members to forgive one another and work together for the success of the party.

According to him, “Let’s see how we can move forward and chart a new course. Let’s get a common ground, which is to forgive ourselves. We cannot take over this state in disunity”.

The APC chairman also urged stakeholders and members with grievances to desist from taking their complaints to the media, advising them instead to channel such issues to the appropriate party organs for redress.

He further warned members who remain in the APC but work for other political parties, stressing that the party would not tolerate such acts of disloyalty going forward.

Chukwu also declared that the APC was not entering into any alliance, urging members to remain committed to the party and work collectively towards achieving its political objectives in the state.

Recall, that the Party had given 14 days ultimatum to the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, and the member representing Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency, Hon Chris Nkwonta, to apologize for what the party described as anti-party.

The party had earlier condemned statements attributed to former Abia State Governor and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Hon. Chris Nkwonta in support of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 Governorship election.

The State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, in a meeting held on Monday, August 10, 2026, described the alleged statements and actions of the two APC leaders as “unstatesmanlike, irresponsible, embarrassing and inimical” to the unity and electoral prospects of the party in the state.

In a communiqué signed by the 17 members of the SWC and made available to newsmen, the party expressed concern that the alleged declarations came at a time when the APC was mobilising its members across the 184 wards of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The SWC alleged that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, during an interview with a national television station, declared that Governor Otti would win the 2027 Governorship election.

It also expressed disappointment over Hon. Chris Nkwonta’s reported statement, made in the presence of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, that he would vote for Governor Otti in the 2027 election.
