The 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC),candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, has vowed to unseat the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, in the 2027 general elections.

Orji made his position known in an interview with journalists shortly after the Ikwuano/Umuahia Women Leaders Summit held in Umuahia, where he said he was working hard to reclaim the federal constituency.

The former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly was defeated by Aguocha in the 2023 election but said he was determined to return to the National Assembly, insisting that his experience and record in public office placed him in a strong position to provide better representation.

Orji said the endorsement he received from the women leaders was a renewed call to service and an indication of their confidence in his capacity to deliver effective representation.

He also described the endorsement as one that extended to other APC candidates across the various elective positions, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he said deserved a second term in office.

The APC candidate said his campaign would focus on promoting the party and its candidates at all levels, stressing that his political engagement was based on issues of representation and development rather than sentiment.

According to him, he would canvass votes for his party and its candidates, stating that his duty is to preach his party to the electorates.

“No sentiments in this game, the incumbent is in another party, you don’t expect me to work for him. I am determined to unseat him”, he said.

He maintained that his political activities and constituency projects had remained focused on the three local government areas that make up Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, noting that his signature projects were spread across the nine clans of the constituency.

Highlighting his achievements as Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Orji said his administration facilitated the distribution of more than 32 transformers across the federal constituency, while mini-stadia were constructed in virtually all the clans except one.

He also said several schools across his primary constituency as the Speaker, Iwere renovated during his tenure, alongside efforts to provide clean pipe-borne water to communities.

According to him, his continued relevance in politics after leaving office was largely attributable to his direct touch engagement with the people and commitment to community empowerment.

Orji said the large turnout of women at the summit demonstrated that the people still remembered and appreciated his contributions to their communities.

He added that his political philosophy was anchored on community empowerment and development, stressing that political leadership should not end with elections but should translate into tangible benefits for the people.

The women leaders had earlier given Orji a rousing reception at the summit, cheering and expressing support for his political aspirations as he made his appearance at the gathering, which he attributed to his political antecedents.

The former Speaker used the occasion to reaffirm his determination to defeat the incumbent in the 2027 election, promising to provide what he described as better representation for the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
