2027: I’m the Best Candidate to Represent Abia Central — Nwogu
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), senatorial candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Nkechi Nwogu, has declared that she is the best candidate to represent the district at the National Assembly in the 2027 general elections.
Nwogu made the declaration while speaking with journalists in Umuahia shortly after receiving the party’s flag, stressing that her legislative experience and track record have positioned her to provide effective representation for the people of Abia Central.

The former senator, who represented Abia Central in the Senate for two terms, said she has the experience and capacity to raise the standard of representation in the district.
According to her, the Senate is not a place for experimentation, but an institution that requires experienced and capable lawmakers who understand the legislative process.
“Senate is not for rookies. It is not a place you go and do buga or experiment. It is a serious business that demands seriousness from those going there”, Nwogu said.

She highlighted some of her achievements during her previous tenures in the Senate, including her service as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions.
Nwogu, a banker by profession, said her contributions to the banking sector included championing legislation that led to the establishment of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), which she said helped protect depositors and strengthen the banking sector.
“If a bank is about to die, the law of AMCON will help to salvage that bank without allowing the depositors to lose their monies”, she said, recalling the challenges experienced in the banking sector before the reforms.
She also served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas Resources during her second tenure. According to her, she played a role in ensuring that the Federal Government began receiving dividends from its joint ventures with gas companies.

“For the first time in 2015, Nigeria was able to get their dividends from all the gas companies that had joint ventures with them”, she noted.
Looking ahead, the NDC candidate said she would pursue initiatives aimed at expanding educational opportunities for young people in Abia Central.
She specifically advocated the conversion of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, into a conventional federal university, arguing that such a move would enable students in the area to study courses such as Law, Medicine and other disciplines without having to travel far in search of admission.
“There is a lot to gain from having a conventional federal university. This will give our children who want to study other courses outside Agriculture the opportunity to take advantage of the university around their domain rather than going far and seeking admission elsewhere”.
Nwogu also cited her experience as a Pro-Chancellor of a university for four years, saying the experience had further equipped her with the knowledge required to contribute meaningfully to the development of Abia Central.
She urged the electorate to consider experience and proven capacity when choosing their representative in 2027.

“Having served as a Pro-Chancellor of a university for four years, I have the experience to raise the bar of Abia Central Senatorial District. You don’t drop your champion for the less. I am the best”, Nwogu declared.
