The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, has said that throughout his political career, he has never asked anyone to rig an election on his behalf, maintaining that all his electoral victories have been based on the mandate of the people.
Kalu made the declaration while addressing stakeholders and Local Government executives of the OUK Movement and Reality Organization at his country home in Igbere, Abia State.
According to the former Abia State Governor, his political success has always come through grassroots engagement and the support of the electorate rather than electoral manipulation.
“I have never asked anybody to rig elections for me. Since I went to the House of Representatives, served as Governor, and now as Senator, I have never asked anybody to rig for me. Nobody has rigged elections for us. We have solely represented the people on their mandate. Without the people’s mandate, I will leave and allow another person to serve”, he said.
Speaking ahead of the 2027 general elections, the senator expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure victory in Abia State, adding that candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would also emerge victorious.
“I want to see Bola Ahmed Tinubu winning Abia. All APC candidates will win their elections. Politics is not on Instagram, Facebook or Telegram. Politics is here in our villages. I have remained with the people and done the kind of work many politicians do not do. I travel from community to community, even at night. That is what real campaigning is about”, he stated.
Kalu said his commitment to public service is driven by a desire to improve people’s lives rather than personal political ambition, stressing that he would willingly leave office whenever the people decide not to renew his mandate.
The senator also highlighted his philanthropic activities, saying they are funded from his private business interests rather than public funds.
“I run a business with a strong foundation, that feeds over 16,000 people every month. My businesses operate across Africa. I don’t need to be in politics to do what I do. I finance these projects from my pocket, not from the Senate”, he said.
He further noted that he does not serve on any Senate committee where he could influence contract awards, insisting that his developmental interventions in Abia North are privately funded.
Kalu argued that the impact of his representation has made Abia North one of the most developed senatorial districts in the country, citing multiple recognitions from media organizations as evidence of his performance.
“I have received media awards four times, that speak volumes. I have been in the Senate for almost eight years, and I believe the people will return me again. My ambition is not just political; it is to make an impact globally, both politically and economically. The development in Igbere speaks for itself my developmental strides in the area”, he added.
