2027: Abia North PDP Stakeholders Preach Unity, Urge Members to Shun Divisive Tendencies

 

Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the five Local Government Areas of Abia North Senatorial zone, Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi, have made a strong call for unity among party members, urging members to shun all forms of divisive tendencies and personal interests, but focus on the interest of rebuilding and repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

 

Arising from the strategic stakeholders meeting held yesterday in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area, of Abia State, prominent leaders and key figures of the party, gathered to deliberate on the state of the PDP and chart a progressive path forward.

 

Receiving updates from the various Local Government Area Chairmen, party representatives from Arochukwu, Bende, Ohafia, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi affirmed that the PDP remains strong at their various localities. They reported that members are united and actively responding to reconciliation efforts aimed at addressing grievances.

 

The LGA representatives pledged their unwavering support for the party and assured that no further defections would occur.

 

 

Speaking at the event, several party stakeholders, including former Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency representative, Rt. Hon. Uko Nkole, the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barr. Ikechukwu Osuoha, the South East Legal Adviser, Barr. Ukpai Ukairo, the former Commissioner for Basic Education, Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma, Chief Ndubuisi Etugo Ogah, Hon. Emmanuel Okoronkwo, Hon. Joy Ekekwe, Mrs. Love Eziama, among others, emphasized the need for the party to address the root causes of its challenges and adopt the right principles for lasting stability and progress.

 

According to them, for the party to reclaim its winning momentum, it must put an end to actions that could undermine its success, particularly anti-party activities. They emphasized that suspending members is not a constructive solution and urged the party to instead revive its reconciliation team and prioritize internal consensus-building. “Enough of the suspensions”, they said, calling for unity and dialogue over division.

 

Also, Hon. Emmanuel Ndubuisi, representing Bende South State Constituency, reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the PDP. He urged party leaders to draw inspiration from the leadership style of Jesus Christ, who consistently sought to understand what people thought of Him. He emphasized that any leader who fails to gauge the sentiments of the people risks leading them astray.

 

 

Amidst the wave of defections rocking the party, the member representing Ohafia North State Constituency, Hon Mandela Obasi, who hosted the Abia North stakeholders at his Abiriba country home, said he is not leaving PDP, but would stand firm and support it until it reclaims its lost glory. He noted that his people, the Abiriba, are renowned warriors who do not retreat in the face of adversity.

 

Hon. Obasi vowed to remain in the struggle, stating that as the highest-ranking member of the Abia State House of Assembly from Abia North, it is his responsibility to lead the charge for the party’s resurgence.

 

 

Meanwhile, the Abia North Chairman of PDP, Chief Gabriel Elendu, appreciated Hon Mandela Obasi for hosting the meeting of Abia North Stakeholders, describing it as a right step to victory.

According to him, clinching power back might not be easy, but stated that with unity, cooperation and hope, the party could return to its winning ways, stressing that come 2027, the party would only give tickets to candidates who are credible and would not disappoint the party. He urged members to remain undeterred, keeping faith in the party.

 

Earlier in his address, the State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, expressed confidence that the party would rise again. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to awarding tickets strictly to candidates who emerge through credible primaries and have the capacity to win elections.

 

Elder Amah emphasized that the days of sentiment and impunity were over, as the party has now returned to the people.Issuing a stern warning, he stated that any individual who claims to be a PDP member but works against the party’s interests would face divine consequences. “The PDP will rise again”, he declared with conviction.

 

 

In an interview, stakeholders from Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Okoronkwo and Chief Ndubuisi Etugo Ogah, reacted to the recent defection of the member representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, Hon Lucky Johnson, to the Labour Party, stating that his departure has had no impact on the political structure of Isuikwuato.

 

On the contrary, they noted that the defection has galvanized greater support among party members, asserting that the PDP in Isuikwuato is stronger and better positioned since his exit.

 

The PDP stakeholders shortly after the meeting, unanimously adopted ten key resolutions, reaffirming their unwavering commitment to the unity, growth and electoral success of the PDP in Abia State.

 

In a Communique signed by the State Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, the former House of Representatives member for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon Uko Nkole, the Lawmaker representing Ohafia North State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mandela Obasi, the member representing Bende South State Constituency, Rt Hon Emmanuel Ndubuisi, the Deputy National Legal Adviser of PDP, Chief Barr Okechukwu Osuoha, the South East Legal Adviser, Chief Barr Ukpai Ukairo, the former Commissioner for Basic Education in Abia, Chief Ukwu Rocks Emma and forty others, the leaders stressed the need for all members, irrespective of rank or background, to work together in the spirit of brotherhood to restore the party’s political dominance.

 

The Leaders categorically committed themselves to working assiduously towards ensuring that the PDP reclaims the Abia State Government House come 2027.

 

 

Expressing unflinching support for the leadership of the Abia State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, the party in Abia North, commended the efforts of the State Working Committee in repositioning and rebuilding the party across all levels, stressing that they stand boldly behind Elder Amah in his bold and strategic leadership of the party, pledging their total loyalty and cooperation to his administration.

 

The Abia North Leaders equally passed a vote of confidence on the PDP Local Government Area Chairmen of Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Umunneochi for their dedication, grassroots mobilization, and commitment to the ideals of the party.

 

They called on all party members and leaders across the Abia North zone to close ranks, eschew all divisive tendencies and work together in the spirit of brotherhood and unity for the progress of the party, promising to encourage greater participation of youths and women in party activities, in line with their belief in inclusive leadership and generational synergy.

The Stakeholders affirmed their readiness to engage with the grassroots, consolidating on existing party structures and begin early mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that they will
set up local strategy and reconciliation committees within the Abia North zone to harmonize interests, resolve lingering issues and ensure a united front moving forward, while commending the PDP caucus in the Abia State House of Assembly, urging them to continue playing their oversight role diligently while remaining true ambassadors of the party.

 

The meeting, however, ended on a high note, with party leaders expressing optimism and renewed determination to reclaim lost political ground and drive the PDP to victory in the next election cycle.
