2025 Best Legislator Award: Chukwu Congratulates Reps Deputy Speaker
The member that represented Bende North State Constituency and former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, has congratulated the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu on his remarkable achievement as the Legislator of the Year, 2025, by Leadership Newspaper, which he said was based on his sterling performance in the House of Representatives.
Chukwu, a Board Member of the North West Development Commission ( NWDC), representing the South East, in a release made to newsmen described Kalu as a committed, focused, intelligent and quintessential law maker who has mastered the letters of the Nigeria constitution and using same to deepen dividends of democracy through quality representation, Law making, Oversight function, representation spiced with a rare touch of humanity across political lines that is rare to be found in this clime.
Describing the recognition as well deserved and based on merit, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu said Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu has made immense contributions to Nigeria’s democracy with important legislative achievements, which includes sponsoring about 120 bills in two years, a feat that will be difficult to erase. Hon. Chukwu mentioned such bills as; The State Police Bill; Special Seats for Women in Parliament Bill, Constitution Amendment Bills; National Apprenticeship Scheme Bill; The all-important South East Development Commission Bill and has also initiated a peace project in the South East called Peace in the South East Project ( PISE – P), aimed at promoting unity in the South East states and provoking infrastructural development, peaceful coexistence and mutual cultural affinity of the region.
Chukwu said Ben kalu’s strong academic background as a Lawyer, who also holds multiple degrees, which includes an MBA, a PhD in Public Policy and strategic studies, coupled with very strict upbringing, all shaped him to be soaring high in his legislative duties and wish him more accolades.
