There’s a fully operational primary healthcare facility, a newly reconstructed regional highway cutting through the community, various road projects outlined in government plans, and a budding agricultural investment opportunity that could significantly enhance the area’s economic future.
Thanks to Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, Ozuitem’s development narrative is no longer just about what it lacked in the past. Instead, it’s now focused on what’s being achieved, what’s been officially planned, and the new opportunities being intentionally created for the community.

One of the most immediate and impactful changes for the people of Ozuitem is the retrofitting, equipping, and revitalisation of the Ishiegbu Primary Health Centre.

Ozuitem is situated along the key Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Ozuitem–Lohum–Nkpa–Umuimenyi–Isuikwuato–Alayi–Item–Igbere–Abiriba route, which is part of the 46.36km road that the Otti administration has reconstructed and officially opened in April 2025.

In March 2026, Governor Otti shared some exciting news: Abia is gearing up to formalise a partnership with Presco Plc for a significant oil-palm investment.
Presco has plans to pour in a whopping US$200 million into oil-palm production and processing right here in Abia, pinpointing Ozuitem, Abam, and Ulonna as potential sites for the plantation project. They believe this investment could generate over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs across various sectors, including plantation operations, processing, logistics, and more.
Governor Otti assured that the State Government would assist with land acquisition and provide essential security support, while also stressing the need for fair compensation for the communities involved.
It’s crucial to note that the Presco project is still in the proposal stage and shouldn’t be viewed as a finalized government initiative in Ozuitem. It’s a private-sector investment that the State Government is helping to facilitate. However, the potential impact on Ozuitem is significant.
If everything goes according to plan, large-scale oil-palm cultivation and processing could open up a wealth of opportunities in farming, transportation, processing, logistics, services, and other local value chains.
The State Government has since highlighted the Presco investment as part of a broader agricultural strategy aimed at creating a more favourable business environment.
The Presco proposal aligns perfectly with the agricultural vision that the Otti administration is pursuing.
In 2026, the State kicked off a farmer-support program aimed at 18,634 verified farmers, providing inputs for crops like cassava, rice, maize, plantain, sweet potatoes, pepper, and tomatoes, along with organic fertilizer and logistics support.
For a community like Ozuitem, which relies heavily on agriculture, the significance of agricultural policy goes far beyond just the individual farmer. Improved roads make it easier to transport produce. Accessible healthcare makes rural living more enjoyable.
