Opotoyom, Ugoeze Emerge Winners of NDC Senate and House of Representatives Primaries in Abia

A prominent industrialist and politician, Chief Nnamdi Iro Orji, popularly known as Opotoyom, has reportedly emerged victorious in the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) primary election for the Abia North Senatorial District.

 

The primary election, which was held on May 29, 2026, attracted a large turnout of party members from the five local government areas that make up the senatorial zone. According to reports, Chief Orji defeated three other aspirants, including former House of Representatives member, Uko Nkole, to secure the party’s ticket.

 

In a related development, Ugoeze Elizabeth Ndidiamaka Obioma has, from all indications, emerged winner of the NDC primary election for the Bende Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat.

 

The keenly contested exercise took place at the Uzuakoli Town Hall in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. Despite delays in commencement, the election concluded with the professional nurse reportedly outperforming other contestants to clinch the party’s nomination.

As of the time of filing this report, the national leadership of the Nigerian Democratic Congress had yet to officially release the results of the May 29 primary elections conducted across the country. The delay has generated concerns among party members and election observers who are eagerly awaiting formal confirmation of the outcomes.

 

Party stakeholders and supporters are expected to monitor developments closely as the NDC prepares for the next phase of the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
