Labour Party Convention Signals Readiness for 2027 General Elections— Bourdex
A chieftain of the Labour Party in Abia State, Chief David Onuoha (Bourdex), has described the just concluded party’s national convention as a defining moment that underscores its commitment to internal democracy and readiness for future elections.
Speaking with journalists in Umuahia shortly after convention, Onuoha, who served on the screening, accreditation and electoral sub-committee, said the exercise demonstrated the party’s dedication to transparency, fairness and credibility.
According to him, what the party has demonstrated simply showed that internal democracy was not something being preached, but practiced.
He noted that the committee’s responsibility was to ensure that every vote reflected integrity, explaining that the entire process from screening to accreditation and voting was guided by strict adherence to laid-down guidelines, adding that while no system was perfect, the integrity behind the process of the national convention remained paramount.
“In any political process, there will always be concerns, but the true test lies in how well the system withstands scrutiny. We have put in place mechanisms to address grievances, and at the end of the day, the credibility of the process will stand”, he stated.
Onuoha equally emphasized that the convention was beyond routine political activity, describing it as a step toward consolidating the party’s structure and strengthening its position as a disciplined political movement.
“For the Labour Party, this convention is about consolidation. We are not just an emerging force, we are becoming a well-organized and structured political movement”.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Onuoha noted that the party had taken deliberate steps to strengthen its internal systems and promote unity among members.
“2027 is not a distant conversation. What we have done here is to reinforce our internal processes, ensuring unity and positioning ourselves for effective participation. Any party that gets its internal processes right is already halfway prepared for the larger contest”, he added.
However, he urged party members to remain united, focused and committed to the ideals of justice, fairness and people-centered governance upon which the party was founded.
Onuoha also commended the Governor of Abia State for what he described as purposeful and impactful governance, disclosing that the current administration has set a standard for leadership. According to him, the performance of the state government reflects disciplined leadership and a clear vision, adding that it has earned the support of the people.
He stated that “There is no vacancy in Government House, Umuahia. It is not just a slogan but a reflection of performance, where leadership delivers and the people respond”.
Onuoha added that the convention marked the beginning of deeper structure, strongest unity and clearer direction for the Labour Party as it positions itself to play a significant role in Nigeria’s political future.
