Politics is ultimately about service, trust, and the confidence of the people. Few politicians in Umuahia North State Constituency have earned the admiration, goodwill, and grassroots acceptance that continue to follow Hon. Onyedi Okwulehie (Mayor).
The 2023 election remains a defining moment in the political history of Umuahia North. Hon. Onyedi Okwulehie emerged as the APC candidate and built a campaign that resonated with the people through humility, accessibility, and a clear message of equity, progress, and accountable leadership.
Following the conclusion of the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Hon. Onyedi Okwulehie the winner of the Umuahia North State House of Assembly election, a declaration that reflected the outcome announced from the electoral process and the mandate given by the people through their votes.
However, after the declaration, the election cycle was later overshadowed by legal disputes arising from competing claims within the APC, particularly issues relating to candidacy. The subsequent court proceedings altered the outcome of the contest, but they did not diminish the goodwill, support, and respect he had earned across the constituency.
Rather than allowing disappointment to define him, Hon. Onyedi Okwulehie responded with maturity, calmness, and respect for the rule of law.
