The Abia State Government has reiterated its commitment to the continuous development of Government College Umuahia as part of its broader education policy.
This assurance was given by Kingsley Agomoh, the state’s representative on the Fisher Education Trust Fund (FETF) Board and General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority, during a joint meeting of the FETF Board and the School Management Council held at the college.
Agomoh commended the Old Boys of the institution for their significant financial contributions toward the school’s development. He expressed satisfaction with the ongoing upgrade of infrastructure within the college, emphasizing that the value of education remains paramount to societal growth.
He also praised the cordial working relationship between the FETF Board and the School Management Council.
He further used the occasion to caution the public against encroaching on school lands across the state, urging prospective land buyers to carry out proper verification with relevant authorities before making purchases.
In their separate remarks, members of the FETF Board and the School Management Council, including Obisike Orji, Okey Madukwe, and Obi Okoye, expressed delight over the visible infrastructural
improvements at the college.
They also applauded the state government for entrusting the Old Boys with a key role in the institution’s development.
The speakers further commended the administration of Alex Otti for creating an enabling environment that encourages public and private contributions to the state’s growth.
They noted that the college is steadily regaining its prominence and expressed appreciation for the government’s sustained support.
Highlights of the meeting included an inspection of ongoing projects such as the perimeter fencing of the college and the renovation of the assembly hall.
