APC Abia Governorship Candidate, Eric Opah, Debunks Viral Statement On Nnamdi Kanu
The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief Eric Opah, has distanced himself from a viral statement circulating on social media, allegedly quoting him as promising to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu if elected governor in 2027.
In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Eric Opah Campaign Organisation, Eric Ikwuagwu, the campaign described the purported quote as “false, misleading, and the handiwork of desperate propagandists.”
The controversial statement falsely attributed to Opah read: “I will set Mazi Nnamdi Kanu free once I become Governor of Abia State in 2027. I said it, and I will do it. I have the capacity—don’t doubt me.”
Reacting to the development, the campaign organization stated that Chief Opah never made such comments publicly or privately, insisting that the fabrication was aimed at misleading the public and dragging the APC candidate into needless controversy.
The statement further condemned what it described as the increasing resort to propaganda, falsehood, and character assassination by certain political actors instead of engaging in issue-based politics.
“It is highly condemnable that some persons would deliberately manufacture fake quotes and circulate them in an attempt to deceive unsuspecting members of the public and create tension within the polity,” the statement read.
The campaign maintained that Opah remains committed to lawful governance, peace, development, and constructive engagement on issues affecting Abia State and Nigeria, adding that he would not be distracted by “mischief makers and enemies of progress.”
The organization urged members of the public, supporters, party faithful, and the media to disregard the viral statement and rely only on official communication channels associated with the Eric Opah Campaign Organisation and the APC in Abia State for authentic information.
The statement also warned those behind the alleged fake publication to desist from spreading false information capable of overheating the political atmosphere.
