Abia Prime Ministers Pass Vote of Confidence on Gov Otti, Adopt Him for 2027
The Abia State Council of Traditional Prime Ministers has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, citing what it described as his outstanding performance in governance and infrastructure development across the state.
Rising from its quarterly meeting, the council unanimously resolved to adopt Governor Otti as its sole governorship candidate for the 2027 election, regardless of party affiliation. The body described itself as non-partisan but said the Governor’s achievements compelled it to cross political lines in the interest of continuity.
Reading the communiqué, the Traditional Prime Minister of Ajata na Igu Autonomous Community, Chief Okosisi Harbor, said the council was impressed by the transformation of Aba and Umuahia, noting major improvements in road infrastructure, electricity supply, security, and commerce.
The council particularly highlighted Aba’s emergence as an ultra-modern commercial city and Umuahia’s growing status as a modern capital capable of competing with other state capitals in West Africa.
The council also commended the Governor for the nearly completed Umuahia ultra-modern bus terminal, reforms in the electricity sector with plans for state takeover of power distribution, regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, and the over 300 percent increase in the welfare and status of traditional rulers.
Speaking in an interview, the President of the Council and Traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom, Royal High Chief James Akwukwaegbu, said the adoption of Governor Otti followed a careful review of his performance. He urged the Governor to ignore opposition criticisms and remain focused on delivering good governance to the people.
The council further pledged support for traditional institutions across the state and called on other traditional prime ministers yet to join the forum to do so. It reaffirmed its support for the Governor’s inclusive governance stance, which recognizes all residents of Abia State as Abians, irrespective of origin.
The meeting further concluded with prayers for Governor Otti’s continued success and leadership beyond 2027.
