The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the proposed construction of a Federal Housing Estate in Umuahia, describing the initiative as a significant step toward addressing housing challenges in the state.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the party expressed appreciation to the President, noting that the project, when completed, would help reduce the high cost of rent in Umuahia, which it described as one of the most expensive cities to live in within the region.
The APC stated that the housing estate would contribute to bridging the housing deficit and ease the burden on residents, particularly those living in the state capital. It also acknowledged the role of the Abia State Government in facilitating the project through the provision of land.
While commending Governor Alex Otti for the collaboration, the party urged the state government to ensure that all landowners affected by the project are adequately compensated. According to the statement, this would help prevent grievances similar to those experienced by some residents in Nsulu and Ukwa.
The party further called on the governor to consider replicating such a housing initiative in Aba, the commercial hub of the state, to address housing pressures faced by residents in the city.
Reaffirming its support for the Tinubu administration, the APC noted that the President has shown commitment to the development of Abia State through infrastructure projects, federal appointments, and the establishment of key institutions, despite the state being governed by an opposition party.
The party, therefore, urged residents of the state to continue supporting the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to back the APC in the 2027 general elections to sustain ongoing development efforts.
