UCCIMA Lauds Gov Alex Otti Over Signed MoU To Install Internet Services Across Abia
Arising from an executive meeting, the Umuahia Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture(UCCIMA),
has commended the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, over the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with WIOCC,an ICT and broadband company.
The MoU which is to install fiber optic Internet connectivity across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, would connect the three major cities of Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia LGAs to reliable Internet service.
The sitting President of UCCIMA, Chief Chidi Nkem-Aruoma, described the move of the Abia government to install fiber optic internet connectivity across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state as significant and laudable.
According to Nkem-Aruoma, the initiative would put the State in a broadband, which would serve as
a turning point in the socio-economic development of the state.
Reeling the business benefits of the initiative, Aruoma noted that the broadband would enable businesses to automate processes, reducing manual labour and increasing productivity, adding that it would also enhance collaboration, as with fast and reliable internet, teams can collaborate more effectively, regardless of location.
Also, the incoming First Deputy President of the UCCIMA, Hon. Nmere Asonye said the broadband initiative would open up new business opportunities, enabling entrepreneurs to start and grow online businesses, thereby creating new job opportunities.
Hon Tony Ifesinachi,said it would attract businesses, investments to an area, stimulating local economic growth.
Also, the incoming President, Dr Mrs Catherine Chika Igbokwe, said the initiative would Improve education and skills development, stating that with access to online resources, students in local areas will have access to a vast array of educational resources, improving learning outcomes.
Dr Mrs Catherine Igbokwe further disclosed that the facility would offer Abians the opportunity to skills development, such as online courses and training programs,thereby increasing their employability.
She equally added that the healthcare sector would receive a boost as healthcare providers can provide remote consultations and services, improving healthcare outcomes.
In an interview, the outgoing President, Chief Chidi Nkem-Aruoma, disclosed that plans are in top gear to host the Tunisia Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Mohsen Antit, who is coming to Abia State on a business visit and attend the Abia Business Round Table, and called on members of UCCIMA,as well as Captains of Industry to avail themselves of the great business and investment potentials in Tunisia.
