Two MOUAU Graduating Students Develop Smart Hospital Bed, Device for Security Management

Two graduating students of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, (CEET), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), have developed a smart hospital bed system and an access device for security management.
The two graduands, Dan Emmanuel of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Onile-ere Ayomikun Victor of Mechanical Engineering unveiled the innovations during an interactive session organised by the UNDP–MOUAU University Innovation Pod (UniPod) on January 29, 2026, at the MOUAU-UniPod Complex, as part of activities leading to the official launch of the innovation hub.
In his presentation Dan Emmanuel, introduced an AI-driven smart hospital bed designed to enhance patient care, safety, and clinical efficiency. According to him, the system integrates actuator-based controls that automatically adjust patient positioning, while interfacing with external supervisory systems for real-time monitoring, alerts, and access-controlled operation.
Emmanuel further disclosed that he that he is developing an indigenous smart home prototype featuring an AI-powered home assistant similar in function to Alexa, but tailored to local needs.
Also presenting at the session was Onile-ere Ayomikun Victor, who showcased an access management system developed to improve security and control in both institutional and residential settings.
The student innovators expressed gratitude to the MOUAU UniPod for providing access to modern equipment and an enabling environment that supported the development of their projects.
The presentations underscore MOUAU’s
growing strength in practical, problem-solving research and innovation as the University prepares to launch the Innovation Pod.
