Opposition: Abia PDP Sets To Constitute Members of Shadow Parliament

In a swift move to hold the government of the day accountable, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),in Abia State, following the unveiling of a shadow government, has directed its members in the State House of Assembly to immediately constitute themselves into a shadow parliament.

The Chairman of the Party in the State, Elder Abraham Amah,who issued the directives, said the House Members without delay, should submit names of the Principal and presiding officers of their Shadow Parliament to the Party Secretariat in Umuahia, on or before Friday, November 15, 2024.

Giving the directive during a meeting with the Lawmakers in Umuahia, the Chairman said the essence of the Shadow Parliament is to empower the party to effectively fulfill its constitutional mandate as both an opposition party and a shadow government.

Amah emphasized that the engagement with the Governor Alex Otti’s led administration would be constructive and focused on the well-being of the people of Abia State, noting that once the PDP shadow parliament is properly constituted, the party will promptly submit names for consideration for key appointments to enhance the operations of the shadow government.

“We are committed to ensuring that our work as the shadow government resonates with the needs and aspirations of the citizens of Abia State, and we look forward to fostering a productive dialogue that prioritizes the welfare of our people”, Amah added.

Recall that the Party during the administration of oath of office to the newly elected executive members that emerged from the November 3rd,2024 State Congress, vowed to hold the government in Abia accountable.

The Party through its new leader,Elder Abraham Amah, unveiled the “Shadow Government”, as a tool the party would be using to call the Alex Otti’s government to deliver on its mandate to the people of Abia State.

As part of that move, the party met with the State House of Assembly members yesterday, November 12th,2024, to intimate them how the shadow government would be run, instructing that the Lawmakers should proceed to form,a Shadow Parliament, having a Principal and presiding officers.

Meanwhile, the Party disclosed that it’s State Secretariat would serve as the Headquarters of the shadow government.
