In the wake of recent defections from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling Labour Party in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Mandela Obasi, member representing Ohafia North State Constituency, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the PDP. Addressing Party faithful during the Abia North PDP Stakeholders’ meeting held yesterday at his country home in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area, Hon Mandela Obasi described the people of Abiriba as resilient fighters who do not abandon their cause in the face of adversity.
According to him, he won’t back out from the party because it loss election, but would stand firm until the party regains it’s winning ways.
Obasi, who is the only elected PDP official remaining across Arochukwu and Ohafia LGAs, attributed his enduring presence to his deep grassroots connection. He also highlighted his status as the highest-ranking PDP lawmaker in Abia North Senatorial Zone, currently serving his third term in the State Assembly. This, he said, places a responsibility on him to lead by example and rally support for the party.
“Right now, I am the top-ranked serving State House of Assembly Lawmaker from Abia North. I must stand with my party in this trying time. If I don’t do it, who will? I’ll also be sponsoring PDP meetings regularly and assist any LGA under Abia North who cannot afford to attend, to participate actively,” he said.
“If others are defecting, I’m not going anywhere. Our people are known for their resilience. I will not back down until our party regains power,” he added.

In their separate remarks, the former House of Representatives member for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Hon Uko Nkole, the Abia State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah and the Abia North PDP Chairman, Chief Gabriel Elendu, all commended Hon Obasi for his commitment and efforts to restore unity in the party. Recall that the PDP in Abia State has recently experienced a series of high-profile defections, including Hon. Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu of Isialangwa North State Constituency, Hon Lucky Johnson of Isuikwuato, and Hon Rowland Chinwendu of Isialangwa South State Constituency, all of whom have joined the Labour Party.
However, with Hon Mandela Obasi’s bold stance and leadership, the PDP may have found renewed hope and stability in Abia North.
