AGN Face-off: Abia Members Fume, Say Amalaha Was Duly Elected, Accuse Doris Ogala, Emeka Rollas Of Destroying Abia AGN
As the leadership tussle of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN),Abia State Chapter, continues to deepen, members of the organization have reacted over the recent Disclaimer against Mr David Onyebuchi Amalaha by the National President of the Association, insisting that Mr Amalaha remains the duly elected Abia chairman of the association.
They alleged that the AGN President,Emeka Rollas was only planting Doris Ogala as a stooge to milk the association dry.
In a Rejoinder, some concerned stakeholders of the association, who spoke with our reporter, said Abia AGN had conducted it’s election as instructed by the National council and wonder why an Interim government would be imposed on the group, when there is a duly elected chairman, in the person of Mr David Onyebuchi Amalaha.
According to Signor Nath Nwoke, the Abia chapter of the group had carried out it’s election last year, inline with scheduled time table approved by the National body. “It was that election that brought on board Mr David Onyebuchi Amalaha”.
Nwoke disclosed that the letter which was signed by the National Secretary, Abubakar S.Yakubu, mandated Abia AGN to conduct their election inline with the approved time table, since the other states like Bayelsa,Edo and Delta, that fall in the same purview, had since complied with the directive without rancour.
He said the Letter also stated that any alteration on the election time table would amount to truncating the standard process approved by the NEC and ratified by the BOT.
According to him, the Letter which was addressed to the chairman of the Reconciliatory Committee of the Abia AGN, contained therein,”Deadline for revalidation of members for the state chapter election as approved by NEC was Saturday,April 29,2023 and there was no extension of the deadline”.
The Letter read thus,”That the election time table submitted by the state AGNEC has been approved and must be strictly followed till May 20,2023, when the election shall be held in the state capital, Umuahia.
“The National President shall not entertain any call, message or meeting in this issue as regards plea to alter the election time table.
“All revalidated members are assured of receiving their identity cards within the stipulated two weeks”.
Mr Nwoke disclosed that they kept to the approved date and on the day of the election the three zones in Abia, Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia converged to elect Mr Amalaha as the chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abia State Chapter, stating that documents, files and other records of the group were officially handed over to him by the former chairman, Mr Sylvester Akwukwaegbu.
He continued to fume, how the leadership of AGN at the National level would condensend so low to the cheap blackmail of one Doris Ogala, simply because her candidate for the election didn’t win.
Nwoke added that Mr Emeka Rollas who would have been neutral, ensuring to restore peace in the chapter, became a party in the matter, writing and signing several petitions against the elected AGN chairman.
He said the interference of the AGN President in the leadership tussle of Abia, is being fueled by the selfish and witty desire to keep milking the funds of the group in Abia and as well, ensure no meaningful progress is recorded within the group or among individuals.
“The National President does not mean well for Abia AGN. He has never supported any of our program geared towards the repositioning of AGN in Abia. That is why he is orchestrating this crisis, to destabilize Mr Amalaha, who came with so much vigor and strategies to reposition Abia AGN.
“Before the election that brought in David Amalaha, we agreed that AGN Abia State chapter must move forward and as well, put to a atop all forms of backwardness and elect someone who will work for the people. Mr Amalaha was massively accepted. Since he came on board, we have opened so many vistas that attracted a lot of new members and as well, organized seminars for artistes. Amalaha is the best thing that happened in Abia AGN”,he said.
Nwoke, however, complained of the illegal activities done by the National President, ranging from the squandering of funds generated in the state, denying registration of Umuahia members so they will not participate in the Guild’s election, issuing of fake identity cards to members in Abia, collecting of revalidation money/Monthly dues without accounting for them, illegal cancellation of an election adjudged the most peaceful, poor welfare conditions for members in Abia and the imposition of one Doris Ogala as the interim chairman of the Guild.
Meanwhile, Nwoke expressed the bitterness of members of the Guild in Abia, which cuts across the three zones of Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia, maintaining that the Guild is comfortable with Mr Amalaha, whom they elected and wondered what the President would gain by imposing Doris Ogala on them, who he alleged,is not a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
“Emeka Rollas is only igniting crisis in Abia AGN and attempting contempt of Court because the matter is already in the High Court”.
Also,a member of the Guild in Abia,Egwuatu Daniel, while narrating his ordeal with the association’s president, accused the AGN President of fraudulent activities, saying he doesn’t have any positive interest in Abia AGN other than to milk dry its resources.
He, however, called for calmness, so that the court could decide on the matter.
