The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a strong disclaimer against a document circulating online which claims the appointment of a caretaker committee for the party in the state.
In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Chief Jude Udeachara, the Abia PDP described the document as misleading, illegal, and of no effect, warning party members and the general public to disregard it entirely.
According to the statement, the document was allegedly signed by an individual parading himself as a publicity secretary, a position the party says emanated from an “unconstitutional and lawless convention” purportedly held in Ibadan late last year. The party noted that the said gathering was conducted in violation of subsisting orders of the Federal High Court and has since been nullified by another Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan.
The Abia PDP stressed that the courts had earlier restrained the individual and his associates from presenting themselves as officers of the party, adding that any action taken by them in that false capacity amounts to contempt of court and a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
Describing the alleged caretaker committee as a “nullity” and a “huge joke,” the party accused the promoters of the document of engaging in misinformation, impunity, and institutional sabotage.
The party reaffirmed that the Elder Abraham Amah led Abia State Executive Committee remains the only legally recognised leadership of the PDP in the state, duly acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The statement further reiterated that the Abia PDP’s commitment to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and strict adherence to the rule of law, insisting that no amount of propaganda can replace legality.
