The Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),has acknowledged the long-overdue agreement reached between the Abia State Government and Organized Labour regarding the new minimum wage and called on Governor Alex Otti to immediately move beyond mere agreements and commence full implementation of the new wage regime without further delay.

In a Press Release signed by the Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State Chapter, Mascot NwokeUkwu, said the payment of a fair wage to Abia workers should not be subjected to prolonged negotiations or bureaucratic delays when it ought to be a direct policy from the government. The unnecessary delay of almost a year in implementing what is rightfully the entitlement of Abia workers has subjected them to untold hardship in the face of the rising cost of living.

Furthermore, the Release called on the Governor to without further excuses, ensure the full payment of outstanding pensions to retirees in the state. It is unacceptable that those who have given their years in service to Abia continue to languish without their due benefits while the state government enjoys significantly increased remittances from the Federation Account. “It is a known fact that allocations to Abia State have quadrupled under this administration, and workers must be seen to have their full rights and privileges secured without being fed stories at every turn.

“The PDP stands firmly with the workers and pensioners of Abia State. We urge Governor Otti to match his words with action by immediately implementing the new minimum wage and paying outstanding pensions without further excuses”.
