Abia APC Dismisses ADC Claims, Reaffirms Support for Tinubu’s Economic Reforms
The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reacted to recent comments credited to former Senate President David Mark and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing their claims against the Federal Government as misleading and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by the Abia APC Caucus following the ADC’s mobilisation event in Umuahia, the party said while it respects the constitutional right of political parties to assemble and express their views, it strongly rejects the narrative that the APC-led Federal Government lacks direction or has abandoned Nigerians to hardship.
The party maintained that Nigeria is undergoing complex but necessary economic reforms under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to the statement, the reforms are designed to stabilise the economy, strengthen the naira, boost local production, and ensure long-term sustainability.
“These reforms, though challenging in the short term, are already laying the foundation for durable growth”, the statement noted, adding that economic transformation requires difficult decisions rather than rhetoric at political rallies.
The APC highlighted ongoing social intervention programmes, increased revenue inflows to states, support for small and medium-scale enterprises, and infrastructure development as evidence of the Federal Government’s commitment to stimulating productivity and employment.
The party also described as ironic attempts by some political actors to distance themselves from structural challenges that accumulated during their years in high office, stressing that responsibility for national development must be collective.
On democratic processes, the APC reaffirmed its commitment to free, fair, and credible elections, insisting that competition should be based on ideas and performance rather than what it called “unfounded allegations.” It added that institutions responsible for elections and public finance operate independently within constitutional limits, cautioning that sweeping accusations of manipulation without evidence could erode public confidence.
Addressing concerns about budget implementation and contractor payments, the party said fiscal responsibility demands prudent management of resources, particularly during reform periods. It assured that the administration continues to engage stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in public spending.
As political activities gradually build toward the 2026 general elections, the Abia APC urged Nigerians to critically assess political statements and policy proposals. It maintained that while opposition parties are free to present alternatives, they must do so with facts, viable policy frameworks, and credible governance records.
The statement concluded by affirming that the APC remains focused and united in its commitment to delivering leadership that promotes economic recovery, democratic stability, and long-term national prosperity.
