Abia ADC Describes Newly Inaugurated Membership Registration, Mobilisation and Revalidation Committee As Illegal
The Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared as illegal and unconstitutional a purported “Membership Registration, Mobilisation and Revalidation” (MRMR) State Committee recently inaugurated for the state.
In a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Chiamaka Ohaja, the party said it became aware of a circulating list naming a State Committee Chairperson and members for the MRMR exercise in Abia, stressing that the committee was neither authorised nor recognised by the state leadership.
The party maintained that neither the Abia State Chairman nor the State Executive Committee was consulted in the compilation or inauguration of the said list, describing the development as contrary to the ADC Constitution.
“We strongly advise all Abia State ADC members, ward officials, local government officials, State Executive members, chairmen and the general public to dismiss this so-called committee,” the statement read.
The chapter further affirmed that the list and the individuals named therein are not recognised by the State Executive Committee or the office of the State Chairman.
Rejecting the committee in its entirety, the party called on members across the 17 local government areas to remain focused and continue with ongoing membership mobilisation and registration at the ward and local government levels.
The Abia ADC urged its members not to be distracted by what it described as disruptions, assuring that further directives would be communicated to committed party faithful in due course.
Emphasising adherence to due process, the party noted that its operations are guided by its constitution and internal democratic principles, adding that unity and order can only be sustained through respect for established leadership structures.
The statement concluded with a call on all members to follow laid-down procedures and uphold the integrity of the party in Abia State.
