The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections with the unveiling of a comprehensive campaign framework and measures aimed at strengthening the party’s organisational structure across the state.
The resolutions were reached during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s state headquarters on School Road, Umuahia, where party leaders, elected officials, candidates and stakeholders reviewed progress made so far and mapped out strategies for the forthcoming elections.
The meeting was attended by Governor Alex Otti, Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Emmanuel Emeruwa, Deputy Speaker Austin Okezie, National Secretary of the Labour Party Acho Obioma, former National Secretary Darlington Nwokocha, House of Representatives member Ginger Onwusibe, Chief of Staff Caleb Ajagba, South-East Zonal Chairman Ishmael Onuoha, Abia State Chairman Peter Azubuike, Chief David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, Ubani Monday Onyekachi (SAN), members of the State Working Committee, local government chairmen, executive mayors and other party stakeholders.
Speaking during the meeting, the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, presented a report on the activities of the State Working Committee since assuming office, saying reforms were being implemented to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged party leaders to embrace collective leadership and unity, stressing that teamwork would be critical to the party’s electoral success.
The State Secretary, Barr. Chuks Akamadu, also presented the draft 2027 Labour Party Campaign Guide, describing it as a strategic document that would provide direction for candidates, party officials and campaign structures across the state.
In a related presentation, the State Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, unveiled the party’s digital communication and support architecture, designed to improve coordination, information management and public engagement throughout the electioneering period.
Stakeholders who spoke during the meeting, including Senator Darlington Nwokocha, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, Hon. Acho Obioma and Chief David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, commended the initiatives of the State Working Committee and pledged support for the implementation of the campaign framework.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Alex Otti praised the leadership of the party for its commitment to strengthening internal structures and commended members for the peaceful conduct of the Labour Party’s primary elections.
He noted that the successful completion of the primaries reflected the party’s growing organisational capacity and institutional maturity, urging party leaders and candidates to remain united, disciplined and committed as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
The Governor emphasised the importance of grassroots mobilisation and collective responsibility, stating that electoral victory would depend on unity, effective organisation and sustained engagement with the people.
As part of efforts to boost the party’s operational efficiency, the State Working Committee distributed six Toyota Sienna vehicles to key departments, including the offices of the State Chairman, State Secretary, Organising Secretary, Woman Leader, Youth Leader and the Publicity Department.
The party leadership said additional vehicles would be provided to other departments in the coming months as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Labour Party’s administrative and operational capacity in Abia State.
The meeting ended with participants reaffirming their commitment to consolidating the party’s structures across the state and resolving to convene a broader stakeholders’ meeting in the near future to deepen consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
