The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North, Umuahia South and Ikwuano Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has called on eligible residents of the constituency to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Aguocha described the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) as a powerful tool for civic participation, stressing that increased voter registration would strengthen the constituency’s democratic voice and influence.
He urged first-time voters who have attained the age of 18 to register without delay, while encouraging those with lost, damaged or outdated voter cards to use the registration window to replace, update or transfer their registration.
The lawmaker also appealed to youths, women and first-time voters to mobilise others to participate in the exercise, noting that their involvement would play a crucial role in determining the future political and developmental direction of Abia State and the country.
According to him, every eligible citizen should obtain a valid PVC to exercise their constitutional right to vote, adding that democracy thrives when citizens actively participate in the electoral process.
Aguocha warned against voter apathy, saying low voter participation weakens democratic institutions and reduces citizens’ ability to hold elected officials accountable.
He further called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, women associations and civil society organisations across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South to intensify public sensitization and ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the registration exercise due to lack of information.
The federal lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation, maintaining that credible elections remain the foundation of good governance and sustainable development.
He encouraged constituents to take advantage of the ongoing CVR exercise and secure their Permanent Voter Cards, insisting that greater participation in the electoral process would strengthen the constituency’s collective voice in shaping its future.
