Anosike Emerges Abia PDP Governorship Candidate, Unveils Welfare-Driven Agenda

Ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Abia State, a United States-based legal practitioner and international oil and gas solicitor, Kelechi Anosike, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Anosike secured the party’s ticket after defeating former Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, and Barrister Olugu Kalu Ugba during the party’s governorship primary election conducted in Abia.

Announcing the result on behalf of the Chairman of the Election Committee, Hon. Chris Nnadi, the Abia State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, disclosed that Barrister Olugu Kalu Ugba polled 961 votes, Chief John Okiyi Kalu scored 3,145 votes, while Kelechi Anosike secured 16,543 votes to emerge the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Anosike appreciated the party leadership and members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work with other aspirants and stakeholders to reposition the party in the state.

He stated that his administration would be anchored on a welfare-oriented and people-first policy aimed at improving the living conditions of Abians.

According to him, his government would introduce programmes such as Operation Feed Abia (OFA), to boost food production and ensure food security across the state, as well as Civil Service Care and Pension Plus initiatives targeted at improving the welfare of civil servants and pensioners.

The PDP governorship candidate also promised to create opportunities for youths and women while pursuing infrastructural development alongside policies that would give residents a stronger sense of belonging.

Anosike further said his emergence would signal a new beginning for the PDP in Abia State, adding that the party remains open to welcoming new members and former stakeholders willing to return and contribute to its rebuilding process.
