PDP Has Not Endorsed Any Governorship Candidate~Abia South PDP Reacts
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia South Zone, has dismissed claims suggesting that it has endorsed a governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such reports as false and misleading.
In an official statement issued by the party’s leadership in the zone, the PDP was reacting to comments made by Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu, a former member of the party who is now in the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that a candidate had been endorsed by the PDP.
The party clarified that no such endorsement has taken place, stressing that the APC itself is yet to formally present any governorship candidate.
“The Abia South PDP categorically states that such claims are false and misleading,” the statement read, adding that the party has well-established procedures for the emergence and endorsement of candidates.
According to the PDP, these processes are guided by the appropriate organs of the party and must be ratified by the National Working Committee (NWC). It noted that, as of now, no directive or communication regarding any endorsement has been received either at the state level or within the Abia South Zone.
The party further described it as an abuse of process for any individual or group to claim to speak on behalf of the PDP, especially through unofficial platforms such as empowerment forums.
“It is a flagrant disregard for constituted party authority for anyone to use such platforms to make pronouncements on behalf of a party as big as the PDP,” the statement added.
The PDP, therefore, urged its members and the general public to disregard the comments, which it attributed to personal opinions and misrepresentation.
Reaffirming its commitment to the democratic process, the party stated that it remains focused on strengthening its grassroots structures and mobilizing support across Abia South and the state at large in preparation for the 2027 elections.
The statement was jointly signed by key party leaders in the zone, including the State Deputy Chairman, Chief Chinyere I. Onuoha; Zonal Chairman, Enyinnaya Appolos; State Treasurer, Barr. Chizuru Kanu; State Youth Leader, Comrade Ugwumba Adiele; and several local government party chairmen.
