The Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that the party is not organizing any Ward, Local Government Area (LGA), or State congresses purportedly scheduled to hold between April 7 and 14, 2026.
In a statement issued by the State Chairman, Hon. Don Norman Obinna, the party clarified its position to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party members, stakeholders, and the general public, stressing that any such activities being circulated did not originate from the recognised state leadership.
The party further referenced a recent Appeal Court ruling which upheld the status quo ante bellum, a development that reportedly prompted INEC to remove the Sen. David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC) from its official website. INEC was also said to have directed its state offices not to monitor or participate in the alleged ADC state congresses and national convention.
According to the statement, the current tenure of ward, LGA, and state executives in Abia remains valid and unaffected by the ongoing developments at the national level.
The Abia ADC leadership therefore called on its members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and focused on promoting the party’s ideals, warning against any actions capable of disrupting peace across the state.
“Efforts are ongoing to reposition and strengthen the party while restoring normalcy. Members will be duly informed as progress is made,” the statement added.
The party also expressed appreciation to its members and stakeholders for their continued support and commitment during the period of internal adjustments.
