Chukwu Calls For Reflection As Nigeria Commemorates 64th Independence

 

The Special Adviser to the Abia State Governor on Due Process and Public Procurement, Dr Oluebube Chukwu, has congratulated Nigerians and Abians in particular on the nation’s 64th Independence anniversary celebration.

 

 

 

In a chat with newsmen in Umuahia, Dr Chukwu who is also the founder of Dr Oluebube Chukwu Foundation, said the nation’s independence calls for reflection as it commemorates the country’s freedom from colonial rule in 1960.

 

 

 

Dr chukwu noted that the anniversary affords Nigerians the opportunity to reflect on the journey so far and as well, recommit to building a united,prosperous and secured nation.

 

 

 

He said the nation had witnessed several stages of development since her independence, emphasizing that the government’s efforts to address insecurity, promote economic growth, and improve education and healthcare have been progressive.

 

 

 

In addition, the Due Process and Public Procurement boss, acknowledged the challenges bedeviling the nation, and pointed that significant strides in diversifying the economy, investing in infrastructure, security and empowering the youths, would go a long way in cushioning the effects of the economy.

 

 

 

He said the 64th independence anniversary, however, coincides with Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to address its economic and security challenges that have posed great hardship on the people.

 

 

 

“It is with mixed feelings that we mark the anniversary of the nation’s independence. Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary is a bittersweet celebration, as the country continues to grapple with economic and security challenges that have taken a significant toll on its citizens. Despite the progress made, the lingering issues of insecurity, poverty, and unemployment have created a sense of uncertainty and hardship among Nigerians.

 

 

 

“The country’s struggle with security challenges, particularly terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, has been a major concern. The Boko Haram insurgency in the northern region has resulted in significant loss of life and property, while also affecting business operations and investment.

 

 

 

“Moreso,the economic challenges facing us currently, have been exacerbated by corruption, lack of institutional capacity, and inadequate infrastructure. The country’s reliance on oil exports has made it vulnerable to fluctuations in global oil prices, leading to economic instability.

 

 

 

“it’s essential to acknowledge our key challenges of poverty, unemployment, economic instability, insecurity, among others, and the need for collective efforts to address them,as we mark our 64th independence. The government, private sector and civil society, must work together to create a more secured, prosperous, and inclusive society for all Nigerians.

 

 

 

“Our journey to become a prosperous nation is just beginning and I urge everyone to be patient, to hold on to hope and to believe that change is not only possible but inevitable.

 

 

 

“Nigeria’s brightest days are ahead of us. Together, with unwavering belief, we will build a nation that our children and generations will be proud of”,he added.

 

 

 

He urged Nigerians to look beyond the current economic situation and recognize the strength in our diversity, remain optimistic and work tirelessly towards a brighter future for all Nigerians.

 

 

 

Chukwu further commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, for his deliberate efforts in transforming the state through his policies and programs. His administration, Chukwu noted is focused on retrofitting Abia, tackling challenges head-on and driving growth.

 

 

 

According to him, Abia is gradually levelling up on the area of infrastructure, as the Governor has commissioned several road projects, including the University Road, Green Avenue, and College Road in Aba, significantly improving connectivity and economic activities in the area.

 

 

 

Dr Oluebube Chukwu, equally disclosed that Abia government has partnered with the European Union-funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme to enhance justice and anti-corruption systems, demonstrating zero tolerance for corruption,thereby improving good governance.

 

 

 

He revealed that Abia State is set to collaborate with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), to develop and implement its industrial policy, leveraging UNIDO’s expertise in sectors like agriculture, renewable energy and SME support, stressing that Dr Otti’s administration prioritizes education, with plans to create a formal structure for training and developing artisans, aiming to make Abia a regional hub for human capital.

 

 

 

Dr Chukwu further extended warm wishes to Abians on the nation’s independence,while seeking their ongoing support to the Dr Alex Otti’s administration to revitalize and enhance the welfare of citizens in the state.
