Syracuse, N.Y. — Fight for Hearts, a nonprofit business that promotes heart health through fitness and education, has received the $10,000 UnitedHealthcare Community Care Award.

The business was chosen from five finalists who presented ideas for enhancing the health and wellness of the greater Syracuse and Central New York community during a live pitch event Monday night at The Tech Garden in Syracuse. Its founder, Srdan Lukic, became a boxer after surviving three open heart surgeries at a young age.

Fight for Hearts offers onsite coaching, strength and conditioning, boxing, and youth and senior fitness classes.

“All of our programs focus on improving quality of life, developing positive fitness habits and educating, as well as helping build communities in the process,” Lukic said.

The business will use the $10,000 award to expand its Junior Coach program to more community clubs in Syracuse and surrounding rural areas to teach children leadership and teamwork skill

The other finalists for the award were King + King Architects, Life Source Acupuncture, Redhouse Arts Center and Sleep Center of CNY.

Fight for Hearts was selected by a panel of business leaders and health care experts.
